Description
This is a very special vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso dating to the early 1930s. This watch was owned by a rather famous individual “Anthony Drexel Biddle Jr.” who was named the “Best-Dressed man of All Time” in the 1940s. Biddle was a General, Ambassador and friends with President John F. Kennedy. This watch comes with a letter from his nephew. There is much information about him on the internet. This Reverso is very rare due to its dual name original dial signed “W. Allemann” (the retailer) as well as Reverso Standard. Some ask me why the printing is different. Well, I believe the print is original. This is among the very first of the Reverso watches. if you do your research, you will see there were some variations in the earliest examples. On the steel case, the Biddle family crest is engraved on one side; further enhancing its ownership. The blued steel hands are original. This stainless steel Reverso case displays very fine condition, measuring 22.8×36.8mm and is without any flaws worth noting. Please also notice that the front case and rear are both signed with matching numbers correctly, as all Reverso watches are. The attached ’30s steel bracelet is signed Movado and came with the watch when purchased, and was said to have been worn by Anthony. The fine original movement is made by Tavannes and Lisica signed; which is is another Company Tavannes owned. It is stated (after much research) that the earliest Lisica signed movement Reversos were sent to India to be worn and tested by Polo players. Le Coultre signed movements were added at a later date. This is one of the earliest and truly rare examples. This movement was just serviced and is accurate. I have priced this special vintage watch very well.
