Description
This vintage, all-original and correct 1942 Rolex aviator’s watch named the Rolex Sky-Rocket was produced for Canadian soldiers going overseas in WW2 and was marketed towards fighter pilots. The original, and very clean 29.5mm stainless steel case with original dustproof winding crown, stepped bezel, and original contract case is as clean as I’ve found. The original and signed Pioneer contract case back is stainless steel. Many of these contract cases were not signed Rolex, as Rolex commissioned ID and Pioneer case company to produce their cases in Canada to circumvent import duties. These Rolex Sky-Rocket watches were all small in stature. They were likely made smaller to reduce the chance of damaging them. The original black dial on this Sky-Rocket is amongst the best we’ve ever owned! For every 20 silver dials we find, we find one black dial, as they are very rare. Notice the white, 24-hour register, original radium, blued steel pencil hands and sweep-seconds. The manual winding caliber 59 Rolex movement (correctly signed “ROLEX” under the dial) is sparkling and keeping accurate time after a recent cleaning by our Rolex-approved watchmaker. We simply are not seeing these watches appear as of late. Most Rolex Sky-Rocket dials have been refinished, which reduces their value.
