1940s Rolex Standard

Description

Usually, when we find these Rolex Standard vintage Canadian watches, they are quite worn – the cases are often ‘brassed out’ and the dials heavily stained. This one is very well preserved, having stepped sides in gold fill with steel back. The brassing appearing in my heavily lit and close-up photos is hardly visible in the flesh. The case measures a usual and smaller 25.5x35mm. This watch does appear elongated on the wrist. The blued steel hands, with sub-seconds are original. The dial is two-toned with reflective Arabic-style numerals. In real life, this dial appears easy to read. My detailed pictures show more than is visible with the naked eye. These cases were often not signed Rolex as they were Canadian-made for Rolex in order to circumvent import duties. They are completely correct and original. This particular case is fully and correctly signed Rolex, which adds further value. The correct and original Rolex manual winding movement is the modified caliber 59 and signed (correctly) “ROLEX” under the dial and not on the movement’s outer plate.
