This
is a rare square shaped mens' ROLEX from the late 1930's early
40's measuring a smaller sized 25x35.5mm. lug to lug. The
original case was rhodium plated and worn; so, we had the
case expensively re-plated in lustrous rhodium to bring its'
original luster back. The rhodium plate will last many decades!
The case back is the original stainless steel and is signed.
The dial is really elegant to gaze upon and is completely
original and un-touched. Notice the gold gilt ROMAN numerals
with sub-seconds and original stick hands. With the age of
this watch, we usually find these dials heavily spotted from
moisture in the non-sealed cases. Not this dial; it is really
lovely and evenly aged. Only the words "shock resisting"
have faded just above the sub-seconds. It can still be read
on an angle. The original ROLEX manual winding movement was
just cleaned and overhauled and should provide many more years
of timekeeping. This watch is really quite lovely on the wrist.
The oxidization on the hands is not as visible with the naked
eye... it shows mainly in my close-up pictures due to the
light angle. If you love the look of an original, vintage
black dial ROLEX and understand how RARE they are to find
from this era; then, you will appreciate this watch! Perfect
for a man who prefers smaller watches or a woman.
