The
GLYCINE AIRMAN vintage military watch was used in Vietnam,
popular amongst military servicemen and pilots everywhere
in the 1950's onwards; due to the bold and easy to read 24
hour dial. These dials display both 24 hour time and conventional
time at the same time! This example is spectacular overall...all
original, including the pristine black dial with military
hands (excellent condition) having the original bubble date
crystal. This dial is one of the finest we have seen! *Please
note...scratches on the crystal shown in picture have been
removed. The lower crown locks the rotating bezel. The entire
case is in fine condition with no major dings or scratches;
only normal nicks from regular use and (usual) wear on the
caseback, but readable with a loupe. The automatic winding,
signed GLYCINE movement was recently cleaned and authenticated
by FALCON WATCH COMPANY in 2008 (receipt attached) and is
keeping time very well! This later version of the airman features
hacking seconds when the crown is pulled out. Also, the quickset
date feature is also present on this circa 1975 version! Due
to the desirability of the GLYCINE AIRMAN, there are FAKES
out there...we know the difference...many are getting scammed...be
careful...especially on eBay! This is a prime all correct
and original example of a 1970's GLYCINE Airman with the original
GLYCINE band and service receipt! To add to this; this watch
and another AIRMAN were purchased from the original owner
who was a pilot....his exact note to me is below when he sold
it to me. Also his actual picture is included in my pictures.
Both watches will be posted for sale. The watch we are selling
in this description is serial #323119. The leather shield
he mentions is not included...it is rotted and has fallen
apart. He says as follows:
"I
bought these watches in 1976 and used them for about 10 years
while flying over 4,000 hours in the C-130, T-41C and MC-130E
with the USAF. Both run but the one without a watchband will
not set. I am reluctant to pull on the stem. I seem to remember
I had a problem with a stem before and had it repaired in
St. Louis (Falcon I believe is their name). The one without
a watchband is the one I used the most and it shows more wear.
It reads GLYCINE AIRMAN on the face. The markings on the back
are rubbed pretty smooth but you can read Pat 314050, 323.119
and a (serial number) 940866 on the back. The one with the
watchband reads GLYCINE AIRMAN SPECIAL on the face and Pat
314050, 323.119 and a (serial number) 940921 on the back.
It runs well and seems to function ok. As you can see from
the pictures both have wear but are in good condition. I will
include the generic metal watchband with leather shield which
kept the sweat off the watch as pictured in the black and
white photo of me from 1977"
We sell more vintage GLYCINE AIRMAN's than any dealer in the
world, so you can be assured of all our GLYCINES being "correct".
This is as complete and fine as one will ever find when seeking
a GLYCINE AIRMAN pilots' watch!
